Volunteering

Overview

The Meeting Place is seeking volunteers to help with various activities such as organizing or offering classes, assisting with office work, or participating in the Meals on Wheels program. We strive to enhance the quality of life for senior residents of Polk County and can not do such work without the help of our generous volunteers.

As part of our mission is to provide recreational, social, and educational activities to Polk County seniors, the Meeting Place is constantly in search of new ideas and classes to offer. If you have any special skills or activities you would like to offer to our facility, please let us know. Activities in the past have included line dancing, Zumba, crafts, and team trivia.

 Meals on Wheels
Beginning over 35 years ago with only 20 clients, the Polk County Meals on Wheels program has expanded and delivered over 25,000 meals in the past year to seniors in need. Volunteers pick up meals in Columbus, Green Creek, or Saluda, deliver them on a specific route, and return the containers to the pickup site. Meals on Wheels strives to provide nutritious, well-balanced meals to local seniors while also giving them the independence of staying in their own homes. Volunteers are the foundation of the program as they provide social networking and are often the only individuals that the recipients see or speak with all day. Unfortunately, as volunteer numbers decline, meals are becoming increasingly more difficult to deliver. To continue to sustain this program, The Meeting Place needs more volunteers for the Meals on Wheels program. Only a few hours a month are required to participate, and volunteers are able to give as much time as desired.
