Solid Waste (Transfer Station and Landfill)

Handles waste disposal and recycling for the county. Recyclable products accepted include newspapers, mixed paper, glass, plastic and metal food and beverage packaging. Materials handled at landfill include stumps, brush, yard waste, metal, appliances, automotive batteries, waste oil, tires, concrete, blocks, brick and asphalt. Polk County residents (1 household) $7.00 a load fee for household disposal or a $75. 12-month permit can dump house. Commercial quantities $60 a ton garbage, $30 a ton brush, $43 construction. Partner with schools, Cooperative Extension and other groups interested in recycling.
